If ever you dont know where you are in the city, there are several ways to quickly determine where youre at. First off, pause the game. The pause screen defaults to a map, and this is easily searchable. Press X to go to the map function. After studying it, make sure you turn the Legend off by pressing X again so you can see the entire area. The map is zoomed out as far as it goes right off the bat, showing the entire game area. A giant pink arrow is pointing to your position on the map. You can zoom in to see a detailed view of the area youre in by pressing R1, and zoom back out again by pressing R2. While zoomed, move around the map using the left analog stick or D Pad. Another way you can get your bearings is by pausing and unpausing quickly. Each time you come back to the game, the name of the area youre in will appear on the screen. You can also use the small inset map in the bottom left corner of the screen to help find your way. A pink dot will point the way to your next objective. Since its so easy to get lost in other activities while playing Vice City, its easy to forget what youve been up to. To help you remember, a Brief function can be found at the pause menu. Navigate to it and hit X to bring up the display. The Brief screen will display the last few messages youve received, including Stunt Jump info, and communications with characters. Stats are primarily for fun, although they also help you keep track of where you are in the game. They can be found at the Pause menu. The Stats screen tracks all kinds of statistics from the wacky to the sadistic. Track how far you are in the game, how many vehicles youve wrecked, what you cost the police department, how many people youve killed, how many missions youve completed and what your favorite radio station has been.
